Just north of Ridgecrest, California on the China Lake Naval Air Weapons base, we have a world class treasure trove of prehistoric art. This is the greatest concentration of rock art in the entire Western Hemisphere! There are more depictions of bighorn sheep in the Coso Range than in all the rock art sites in the entire Great Basin combined, which begs the questions:
Why the obsession with making bighorn sheep petroglyphs? How old are these images, and how do we know it? Why did the numbers of their rock art images expand so much and then die away so quickly? What finally happened to these people?
