Investigadores afirman haber encontrado en China los fragmentos más antiguos de cerámica de los que se tenga registro hasta el momento, con unos 20.000 años de antigüedad, según un estudio publicado en la revista científica Science.
Se cree que los trozos pertenecieron a una comunidad de cazadores-recolectores itinerantes y que habrían sido utilizados como elementos de cocina, debido a las marcas de quemaduras que tienen, según los investigadores de la Universidad de Pekín, Boston, Harvard y Eberhard Karls.
La cerámica fue encontrada en la Cueva Xianrendong en el norte de la provincia de Jiangxi, China, a unos 100 kilómetros al sur del río Yangtze.

Hundreds of fragments of pottery have been found since the 1960s in Xianrendong cave in south-east China
Ofer Bar-Yosef of Harvard University and colleagues excavated the cave again in 2009 and, for the first time, used radiocarbon dating to work out the age of the layers where the pottery shards were found. The oldest ones turned out to be between 19,000 and 20,000 years old.
