The first metal was discovered over 10,000 years ago. It was a revolutionary step for mankind. Someone must have found a relatively pure copper nugget by accident and realized that this unknown material could be shaped by beating. At some point our ancestors succeeded in smelting copper ore at 1000ºC and fashioning it into desired forms. The triumphal march of copper began! ... iceman.it

Per celebrare i 25 anni dallo straordinario ritrovamento di Ötzi, il Museo Archeologico propone una “giornata delle porte aperte” in programma il prossimo 18 settembre 2016, che fungerà anche da occasione per visitare la mostra temporanea “Heavy Metal – Come il rame cambiò il mondo”, allestita nelle sue sale fino al 14 gennaio 2018: l’esposizione ripercorre la storia del rame e le conseguenze che la sua rivoluzionaria scoperta ebbero per l’Homo Sapiens, oltre a riallacciarsi idealmente alla permanente dedicata alla mummia, ritrovata un quarto di secolo fa...

"The iceman is without doubt one of the most outstanding mummy discoveries in the history of mankind," said Angelika Fleckinger, director of the museum in Bolzano, Italy, where the mummy is on display.
"It's a unique window into the prehistoric era, and gives us an incredible amount of information," she told AFP...

Para celebrar el 25 aniversario de su descubrimiento, investigadores de todo el mundo se reúnen estos días en un congreso en Bolzano, Italia, donde han presentado las últimas novedades sobre este viejo europeo que vivió hace 5.300 años. Para empezar, podía no ser de los Alpes, como se creía hasta ahora, sino de la Toscana; probablemente no trabajaba el metal, como los altos niveles de arsénico y cobre hallados en su pelo han llevado a asumir, y lo que es más fascinante: pudo ser asesinado debido a un conflicto personal unos pocos días antes de su fallecimiento. Además, a pesar de su peso normal y estilo de vida activo, sufría una extendida calcificación vascular...

The copper used to make Ötzi's axe blade did not come from the Alpine region as had previously been supposed, but from ore mined in southern Tuscany. Ötzi was probably not involved in working the metal himself, as the high levels of arsenic and copper found in his hair had, until now, led us to assume. His murder over 5,000 years ago seems to have been brought about due to a personal conflict a few days before his demise, and the man from the ice, despite his normal weight and active life-style, suffered from extensive vascular calcification. Scientists from all over the world presented these and other new insights, at the recent International Mummy Congress in Bozen-Bolzano. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ötzi's discovery, the three days of the Congress, from 19th to 21st September, are all dedicated to the man from the ice... 


Actualización: La policía investiga el asesinato de ‘El hombre de los hielos’ 5.300 años después
... El Museo Arqueológico de Tirol del Sur, en Bolzano (Italia), dedicado a la momia y a los objetos que portaba en el momento de su muerte, organizó recientemente un congreso que reunió a expertos de todo el mundo para intercambiar datos sobre los últimos descubrimientos en torno a Ötzi —que van desde el origen de la bacteria que provoca las úlceras hasta el tipo de armamento de la época o la alimentación—, pero sobre todo realizó un encargo insólito: pidió a un policía que resolviese el crimen más antiguo del que tenemos noticia: el asesinato del hombre de los hielos. Se anunció allí también un hallazgo sorprendente: el hacha de cobre que Ötzi portaba provenía de un lugar lejano, de Toscana....
